African Activism!

I am sure you all know the World Cup started today in South Africa. I feel incredibly privileged to be only a couple countries away from the excitement!
I am currently sitting in an internet cafe and many people have knocked off early from work to catch the games in cafes, bars and at home. It's a big deal here! Africans are proud to host, you can feel it everywhere!

Here is a little taste of the general sentiment concerning the World Cup. Before embarking on my walking safari in Livingstone a few days ago, our guide Tawanda read us the long text he anonymously sent his British boss.

"Dear Sir/Madam,

I wish to bring to your attention the fact that the world cup begins June 11th and will last a month. Something special after four years and in Africa. During this period, take note:

1) I will be knocking off early depending what time the game starts.

2) I will be reporting late for work depending what time the last game is played.

3) The 1st hour at work will be used only for phone calls and analyzing games.

Dont even try to give me overtime. I know you like boring games like cricket, golf, etc. Try to take interest in soccer. Ask, even if its silly questions like 'When is Malawi playing?' Dont even try to fire me because if you do, you'll have to fire everyone or we'll be watching.

Thank you in advance."

Lucky Tawanda, since there are three employees in total... and all in on it!

|I loved his letter so much I asked him to recite it once again as I copied it word for word. I think I must have boosted his ego! I hope you enjoyed that letter as much as I did... Enjoy the World Cup! I know I will!

More to come this weekend. LOVE.
